Back on track
We’re back baby!! Afer a rough few months I finally made the progress I wanted in November. I had to push through, a friend made me realize a monthly schedule might be a bit much. I could do monthly posts, if I posted unfinished things. Like in a gamejam where you post your proof of concept. Regardless if it has a menu or not. However, this is not satisfying when sharing dungeons or stories. So my desire for a deadline and quick iteration collides with my desire to post something interesting and finished. My friend proposed posting every other month, which I think is a good intermediate. My next post will be Januari + December. I think it will be either a story, or a gamejam. I will also post an update on my secret setting project, inspired by Mirror’s edge and Darker than black. It will be a setting zine for outgunned, and I hope to do a first playtest in Januari.
Now for November, I finished my second dungeon ~Yippie~! It is called The Ivy Mansion, the main theme being a parasitic Ivy overgrowing everything and everyone. I’m happy with my progress in using layout software, and using pre-made brushes in procreate. The art quality and clarity still leaves a lot to be desired. But I reached my goal, to make things and to improve, and now I know where to improve.. And improve I did. In general I have been drawing a lot, and I am happy with the progress. December will be a rough month in regards to progress, with the holidays and two longs books for the book clubs.
My GBA game has been on the back burner. While I enjoy it, it costs a lot of time and brainpower. It also does not really fit this improvement program, because the change is incremental. I cannot churn out a GBA game in a two months, it is a slow grind. I am torn between starting development on a new GBA game, with the intention of finishing something small. Or just focus on the creative process, finishing RPG settings, dungeons, writing stories or even developing small games in Godot. I think I gravitate to the latter, I want to improve in finishing things, to make something. While I enjoy GBA development and find it rewarding, it lures me into the trap of endless projects.
As for my decision. I guess you will find out in Jan/Febuari, when I make my next post!
